Thank you for supporting Bootham or considering doing so. Every gift, no matter the size, helps us make a real difference to the lives of young people. Your generosity strengthens our community and ensures that Bootham continues to offer an outstanding education rooted in Quaker values.

Below you’ll find answers to some common questions about giving to Bootham.

About Your Gift

What will my donation be used for?

Our main focus is transformational bursaries. These provide life-changing opportunities for children who could not otherwise afford a Bootham education. We also offer means-tested bursaries for scholarship students. In addition, we fundraise for equipment and the upkeep of our school estate to enhance the student experience. Recent examples include new digital microphones for school productions, a new fitness suite and upgrades to our swimming pool.

Can I choose what my gift supports?

Yes. While bursaries are our priority, you can direct your gift to other areas such as buildings or equipment. If you prefer this option, please select the General Fund when making your donation.

Are there other ways to support Bootham?

Absolutely. You can donate shares, leave a gift in your Will, make a significant donation or share your expertise.

Please contact Diane Bond, Director of Development, to learn more.

Making a Donation

How can I set up a regular gift?

There are two ways:

  1. Set up a standing order using the details on our Regular Giving page
  2. When donating to one of our funds, select “Make recurring gift” and choose monthly, quarterly or annually.

Is my donation eligible for Gift Aid?

If you are a UK taxpayer and your gift is not a collective donation, you can boost your donation by 25% at no extra cost through Gift Aid. Simply tick the Gift Aid box when donating or complete the Gift Aid declaration below.

Can I make a donation from overseas?

Yes. Payments will be processed in GBP. Your bank may charge you depending on your card usage policy. To avoid any charges, you can make a donation by BACS in the currency of your choice. Please contact us for our current bank details.

Can I make a donation in memory of someone?

Yes. When making a donation, where it asks for your name, please include your name and the name of the person you are remembering, for example: Joe Bloggs, in memory of Chris Bloggs. This will then be included in our annual Impact Report as well as being listed on this website.

What fees will be charged on my donation?

Stripe charges a small transaction fee to the school for each payment. If you choose to set up a standing order, there are no fees and Bootham receives 100% of your gift.

Is my payment secure?

Yes. We use Stripe, a verified and trusted payment processor, to ensure your details are safe.

Staying Connected

What is The Bright Society?

The Bright Society is our community of regular givers who share a commitment to supporting Bootham. Together, we make a lasting difference to children’s lives.

Is there a minimum donation to join The Bright Society?

No. All we ask is that you set up a regular gift, whether £5 a month or £500 a year. It is entirely up to you.

Why should I join The Bright Society?

You will help transform lives, receive regular updates, and be invited to an annual thank you event. It is a wonderful way to stay connected with like-minded people and experience the joy of collective giving.

When is the next Bootham Proud Giving Day?

We are planning our next Giving Day, but the date has not yet been confirmed. Please check back for further details in 2026. In the meantime, if you usually give during Giving Day, we would love for you to consider making a gift today to one of our funds.

Fundraising for Bootham

Can I fundraise for the school?

Yes, we would love that. Please note:

  • We are a small team and cannot manage events on your behalf. However, we would be happy to offer advice and guidance.
  • As a Quaker school, some fundraising activities are not suitable, such as raffles or gambling-based events.
  • We do not yet have a fundraising toolkit, but hope to provide one in 2026.

What types of fundraising can I do?

Ideas include bake sales, sponsored walks, coffee mornings and community events. Please avoid activities involving gambling or alcohol promotions.
