Let your life speak:

transforming lives through a Bootham education

Over the past 200 years, Bootham’s ambition has been to educate young people to ‘let their lives speak’ regardless of economic background. What we have achieved so far has only been possible thanks to the support of Old Scholars, parents and friends of the school. We are now committed to offering transformational bursaries to children from economically deprived backgrounds. The chance to live and study here will change the rest of their lives.

You could help secure a life-changing opportunity for a young person by donating to a fund that will be ring-fenced for the provision of a Bootham education for these young people.

Deneal Smith
Head

Children from the most economically deprived backgrounds usually have the worst educational outcomes in terms of qualifications and careers through no fault of their own. A chance to be at Bootham would see them follow a different path in life. Often these are the children that we see making the most progress at schools such as Bootham.

These talented and ambitious students enrich our school with their potential and experience of the world. If we are to educate young people who will be prepared to challenge and change the world, then they need to be educated in an environment which represents contemporary society.

Transformational bursaries provide social mobility with lifelong impact for the individual, and benefits extending to the whole Bootham community and wider society.

Working in Partnership

We are committed to building a fund with which to offer transformational bursaries to children from economically deprived backgrounds. We have been working with a charity called Royal SpringBoard that matches children from such backgrounds with independent boarding schools. The chance to live and study here will change the rest of their lives. We are also working with the local authority to place Looked-After Children (children often in foster care or residential homes) into boarding at Bootham.
